Abstract
Many individuals aiming to improve or maintain markers of metabolic and cardiovascular health seek non-pharmacological options with demonstrated efficacy and safety. This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of a multi-ingredient liquid botanical nutraceutical containing organic herbal extracts of turmeric, pomegranate, amla, ginger, and black pepper, as well as niacinamide, CoQ10, folic acid, and lycopene on biomarkers related to cardiovascular health. This was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial with a duration of 90 days. The study was conducted at a single center. Participants were healthy adults with normal lipid profiles and were randomized 1:1 to receive the nutraceutical treatment or placebo using simple randomization. Participants received 60 mL of the nutraceutical treatment or placebo twice daily for 90 days, which was orally self-administered. The primary outcome was mean change in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) from baseline to endline. Secondary outcomes were mean changes in high-density lipoprotein, very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), total cholesterol, triglycerides, adiponectin, apolipoprotein A1, and apolipoprotein B. Outcomes were compared between the treatment and placebo groups using analysis of covariance. Safety was evaluated with liver and kidney function markers and adverse event comparison. Eighty-six participants were randomized (n = 43 per group). From baseline to endline, significant differences between study groups favoring the treatment arm were observed in LDL (treatment vs placebo: −19.21 vs +21.07 mg/dL; p < 0.001). Between-group comparisons also favored the treatment arm for all secondary outcomes (p < 0.05 to p < 0.001). No adverse events were reported. The liquid nutraceutical formula was associated with favorable changes in lipid cardiometabolic markers in healthy adults, suggesting a potential role in supporting lipid homeostasis and attenuating unfavorable lipid trends that typically occur over time.Read the full manuscript here:
